The Kitchen Is Coming Together

This is the kitchen coming together.

There is still no stove, no countertops, and no appliances in place—but I can't wait to start cooking. Frozen food and DoorDash are getting old.

For now, the room is a work in progress. The cabinets are taking shape, the walls are filling in, and every new piece makes it easier to picture the finished kitchen.

The kitchen is starting to look like a kitchen, even with the biggest pieces still to come.

Waiting to cook again

What I notice first is what is missing: no stove, no countertops, no appliances. But I can see where the meals will happen, and that is enough to make me impatient in the best way.

I can't wait for the day we can put groceries away, turn on the stove, and make something that did not come out of a freezer or a delivery bag.

The island is beginning to define the room.

The details add up

Renovation progress is a series of small signs. A cabinet opening. A finished wall. A section of the room that is easier to walk through than it was last week. None of it feels like the final reveal yet, but it all counts.

There is still work to do, but the shape of the kitchen is clear.

The laundry room is coming together too

The kitchen is not the only room moving forward. The laundry room is coming together as well, which means we are getting closer to washing our own clothes at home again.

That may sound like a small thing, but it will change the rhythm of everyday life. Being able to cook a meal and run a load of laundry at home will make this place feel less like a project and more like our home.

The work continues beyond the kitchen, one unfinished area at a time.

Every wall and cabinet brings the finished room a little closer.

Living in the in-between

Until the work is finished, there is a lot of in-between: unfinished surfaces, supplies where appliances will go, and rooms that ask us to be patient. It is not always glamorous, but it is honest.

This is what the journey looks like before the final touches.

The final product is the point

This is quite the journey. There are days when the missing pieces are more obvious than the progress, but we are committed to the final product. Every cabinet, wall, and room that comes together is another reason to keep going.

One day soon, this will be a kitchen where we cook, a laundry room where we wash our clothes, and a home that feels ready for us. Until then, we will keep taking it one room at a time.
